I’m aware that Consorsbank is not legally obliged to disclose the reasons for terminating my contract. However it leads to a lot of speculation. Banking is about trust. So it’s a strange strategy for a bank to let speculations on this important matter go on.
Their letters were unprofessional and at some point even rude. I could understand that in certain cases they can’t disclose the reasons for their decision, but sending a client a letter that basically just says “we close all your bank accounts, please contact us and provide us with your banking details so we can transfer any remaining funds” is not done in any case. They don’t apologize for the inconvenience and don’t value any past business with them.
Today I showed the letters to a friend who works as a journalist at Axel Springer in Germany. She told me that she has never seen anything like this before from a credible German bank. As I find it important that clients and potential clients of Consorsbank are aware that their bank account may be closed at any time for no reason and that this happens regularly, I gave her permission to publish the contents of the letters in their newspapers. People should take this considerable risk into account when choosing a safe place for their money.
It doesn’t seem Consorsbank is here to address questions and concerns of its clients. They reply with the same message to all postings in this community. Interestingly enough I received a private message from Max, and it contained even more words than all letters I received regarding the closing of my bank accounts. Unfortunately it was not to ask me for my contact details, to schedule a call to discuss this matter, but to inform me that he’s concerned that my nickname (‘Bank2015’) could mislead people into thinking that I’m an employee of Consorsbank.
Max, regarding your request to communicate in German: my time is precious and it takes me more time to write you in German. If you’d like to communicate with me in German, I suggest you give me a call and I would be happy to talk to you in German. Before posting on this community I actually tried to contact you several times, but there was no one available to talk to.
PS I have German and Dutch citizenship. My bank accounts were used actively with few cash withdrawals.
